Recreate the iconic Big Mac right at home with this easy recipe! From the juicy beef patties to the signature special sauce, you’ll enjoy every bite of this fast food favorite. Serve it up fresh with crispy lettuce, cheese, and pickles on a perfectly toasted bun for the ultimate burger experience.
Ingredients:
For the Special Sauce:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons French dressing
- 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon white wine vinegar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Salt and pepper, to taste
For the Burger:
- 2 lbs ground beef (80% lean for the best flavor)
- Salt and pepper, to season
- 8 hamburger buns (preferably with sesame seeds)
- 4 slices American cheese
- 1/2 cup iceberg lettuce, shredded
- 8-10 dill pickle slices
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
Instructions:
1. Make the Special Sauce:
In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, French dressing, sweet pickle relish, mustard, white wine vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir until smooth and well-combined. Cover and refrigerate while you prepare the rest of the burger.
2. Prepare the Beef Patties:
Divide the ground beef into 8 equal portions and shape them into thin, round patties (about the size of your buns). Press them gently in the center to make a small indentation (this helps them cook evenly).
3. Cook the Patties:
Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Season both sides of the beef patties with salt and pepper. Cook the patties for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until they’re browned and cooked through. During the last minute of cooking, add a slice of American cheese on top of each patty and let it melt.
4. Toast the Buns:
While the patties are cooking, toast the hamburger buns lightly on a separate skillet or in the oven until they’re golden brown. You’ll need three buns per burger: one bottom bun, one middle bun (cut from the top bun), and one top bun.
5. Assemble the Big Mac:
To assemble the Big Mac, start with a bottom bun. Add a generous amount of special sauce, followed by a cooked beef patty with melted cheese. Add some shredded lettuce, a few pickle slices, and a sprinkle of chopped onions.
Take the middle bun (the top of the second bun) and place it on top of the first layer. Repeat the process: add more special sauce, another beef patty, shredded lettuce, pickles, and onions.
Finally, place the top bun on top to complete the Big Mac.
6. Serve & Enjoy:
Slice the Big Mac in half (optional) and serve with your favorite fries or chips on the side. Enjoy your homemade Big Mac with all the flavors of the original!
Tips:
- Make it Your Own: Feel free to add more toppings like tomatoes, extra cheese, or even bacon for a twist on the classic.
- Double the Sauce: If you love the special sauce, make extra to keep on hand for future burgers or dipping.
- Grill Option: You can also grill the beef patties if you prefer that smoky flavor.
