Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour (or bread flour)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar (optional, for a hint of sweetness)
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) warm water
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or melted butter

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Dough

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.
  2. Gradually add warm water while mixing, then knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Add oil/butter and knead for another 2 minutes.
  4. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise for 45–60 minutes, or until doubled in size.

2. Shape the Dough

  1. Punch down the risen dough and transfer it to a lightly floured surface.
  2. Shape it into a smooth round or oval loaf, depending on your pan size.

3. Cook on the Stovetop

  1. Heat a heavy-bottomed pan (non-stick, cast iron, or a deep skillet) over low to medium heat.
  2. Lightly grease the pan with oil or butter.
  3. Place the shaped dough in the pan and cover with a tight lid.
  4. Cook for 10–15 minutes on one side until golden brown. Flip and cook for another 10–12 minutes on the other side.

4. Cool & Serve

  • Remove from the pan and let the bread cool on a wire rack before slicing.
  • Enjoy with butter, jam, or as a sandwich base!

Tips for the Best Stovetop Bread:

✅ Use a thick pan or place a metal trivet under your pan for even heat.
✅ Keep the heat low to medium to avoid burning.
✅ To check if it’s done, tap the bread—it should sound hollow.
