Ingredients:
- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour (or bread flour)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar (optional, for a hint of sweetness)
- 1 tsp instant yeast
- 3/4 cup (180ml) warm water
- 1 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Dough
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.
- Gradually add warm water while mixing, then knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Add oil/butter and knead for another 2 minutes.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise for 45–60 minutes, or until doubled in size.
2. Shape the Dough
- Punch down the risen dough and transfer it to a lightly floured surface.
- Shape it into a smooth round or oval loaf, depending on your pan size.
3. Cook on the Stovetop
- Heat a heavy-bottomed pan (non-stick, cast iron, or a deep skillet) over low to medium heat.
- Lightly grease the pan with oil or butter.
- Place the shaped dough in the pan and cover with a tight lid.
- Cook for 10–15 minutes on one side until golden brown. Flip and cook for another 10–12 minutes on the other side.
4. Cool & Serve
- Remove from the pan and let the bread cool on a wire rack before slicing.
- Enjoy with butter, jam, or as a sandwich base!
Tips for the Best Stovetop Bread:
✅ Use a thick pan or place a metal trivet under your pan for even heat.
✅ Keep the heat low to medium to avoid burning.
✅ To check if it’s done, tap the bread—it should sound hollow.
